“The work of Mr. Cordes has always addressed memory and emotion, but this show focuses on the effects and experiences of a recent illness and promises to take the viewer on a journey through dream-worlds, passing thoughts, recollections and meditations. The exhibition title is telling; Metanoia, a Greek word meaning a change of mind, (that is, beyond the mind). It is a radical revision and transformation of one’s mental process; repentance. It is the idea of a need for conversation, a new way of looking and seeing; a change in perspective; a rhetorical device used to retract a statement in order to state one’s thoughts more clearly. It seems very fitting for the new work of Mr. Cordes.”
